Erika Michelle Sampson

I started distance running when I was in 9th grade at the age of 14. My high school cross country and track coach found me in 8th grade. I continued running cross country and track in college for the University of Houston. I started racing again in 2015.

2022 will be my first Boston Marathon!

I get excited by the sense of accomplishment when I reach a time or distance goal. I also enjoy traveling and running different races. I have met so many people and formed great friendships through running. When I crossed the finish line at my qualifying race last year, my Volte teammates were cheering and hugged me. We all trained together last summer for our qualifying race. Training for Fall races during the Summer in Texas is hard because of the heat and humidity. We held each other accountable. I love running and training with runners that are faster than me. I called it the the thrill of the chase. Chasing my faster teammates made me a better runner. We are all now training for Boston 2022 together!

Don’t let bad runs discourage you. We all have them. Stay focused on the run goals you set for yourself. Remember to run happy because it is a blessing to run.
